city square (2)

city square (1)

Here's some more from the City Square area. I called it Brookman Place the other day, but it's Brookfield. Very exciting to see the most being made out of these beautiful buildings at last. These are all from the St George's Tce side, I've got another post from the new 'plaza' (I guess you would call it) at the back shortly.

city colour

I was excited today because it stopped raining. I wanted to go somewhere to take photos so I went in to town. I think lots of other people had the same idea! Last week I'd wandered over to have a look at how the  old buildings at the base of the Death Star (actual name, Brookman Place or something?) are looking now they have been turned into restaurants etc. They look great. The whole area looks really good. I think they are calling it City Square? All these pics are from that area, except for the stunned mannequins from Alannah Hill. I'm very excited to see those buildings being used, and to see The Hole filled in - even though the actual building is universally accepted as awful. It's a really nice precinct and should be very busy in summer. I can't wait to go to some of the bars there. More photos from there to follow soon. Enjoy your week!

Tip shop scores!

the tip shop

I'm not sure if I should even share this secret... but... do you know about tip shops? They are totes the new op shops. I went for the first time to the one in Balcatta. I was overwhelmed. Piles and piles of stuff! Insanely cheap!

I've been op shopping for possibly 15-20 years now... but had really given up in the last few years. The "vintage" market has become so huge that there is nothing left to buy in op shops! I guess a combination of the vintage shoppers getting there first, and maybe that people don't even donate stuff any more because they know they can sell it on Ebay... So it was like a step back in time to go to the tip shop, where you don't so much "donate" things as chuck them out, and let someone else discover them - the way op shops used to be.

There was a ridiculous array of stuff. Outdoor, indoor, broken, in good condition. Sporting. Furniture. Books. Anything you can imagine. Some of it was actual garbage but, again, that's kinda how op shops are.

I scored two chairs, a table, two ceramic vases, an enamel pot, and a piece of metal grate that will be used as art on the Perpendicular Pumpkin's shed for $10. Yes, $10, you read that correctly. Like days of old. So you can understand my reservation about letting a top secret like this out. But in the spirit of sharing... enjoy!

P.S. I am pretty sure Barry Morgan would have a fit to see that organ, complete with a one finger method setting, at the tip. Sadly I don't have room for an organ at home. Unless Barry came with it, to give me lessons.

green & red

A few more from the garden. Things have gone to seed and are looking a bit tired. These are not the herbs in the herb garden I mentioned in the last post. These are remnants in pots, and tins, lettuce, mint etc. that I have growing on a table. I posted about the rainbow spinach ages ago, and it's still going strong, although it's not really a rainbow any more, its mostly just green. Still very handy for cooking, just not as pretty for photos.

On a separate note, Blogger is being a pain in the arse. It's done something to my html template that I don't know how to fix, which has disappeared some of the borders of each photo, and automatically posts things to the left so I have to move them to the centre and then that seems to jumble the html worse. Right now, it's telling me my html cannot be accepted, and also that "arse" is not a word. Do I mean are, arose, arise? Nope. I mean arse. More importantly it has not showing all the comments. So sorry if you have submitted a comment and it has gone astray. If I don't say it enough (in fact maybe I never have) I do appreciate folks dropping by to look at pictures of my garden and other lame stuff, and leaving me a comment now and again!

yellow & green

I bought a new watering can a few weeks ago, it's bright yellow. So sunny and cheery. Such a bright spot in the garden which is otherwise becoming a bit wintery and dull. I planted a herb garden and its going nuts because of all the rain we've had, and I did some planting out the front too which has hardly needed me to water it. Of course the weeds and caterpillars are going nuts too. They really do my head in and make me wonder why I bother gardening because everything seems to be destroyed so fast - but then things happen like tonight I picked corriander and spinach that I will add to a curry, and yesterday I had a salad with about five types of lettuce, and I think, yes, gardening is good. It's worth the effort.
